Science Outreach

I am deeply committed to outreach, engaging diverse audiences—including underrepresented communities in STEM, K-12 students, policymakers, and the general public. Through mentorship, storytelling, and hands-on activities, I strive to make geosciences accessible and inspiring. Below are some of my outreach efforts, and I look forward to continuing to connect with and empower these communities.

SciComm Workshop/Short Course Presentation

I presented my first science communication workshop at the 43rd Annual Technical Conference of the National Association of Black Geoscientists (NABG) in Atlanta, GA, 2024. I have also led a SciComm short course at the Geological Society of America (GSA) Southeastern Section Meeting in Harrisonburg, VA, 2025.

The Nutshell Games organized by Virginia Tech Center for Communicating Science, is a fast, fun, and friendly research presentation competition. Graduate researchers tell their research stories in just 90 seconds to a public audience and a panel of judges representing both Virginia Tech and the local community — including a 7th grader.

Girls Launch!

A program organized by Virginia Tech Center for Communicating Science for kindergateen science visit. I presented my research through a kindergarten lesson I designed titled "Where’s the Water?" The lesson explores the different forms of water and its role in our environment, making complex concepts accessible to young learners in a fun and engaging way.

Geosciences Field Trip

Field trips on the Huckleberry Trail for 8th-grade Earth science classes at Blacksburg Middle School, organized by the Virginia Tech Department of Geosciences.
